Had a great retreat at Tagaytay. Fr. Rudy Fernandez, S.J. (not the actor) was able to bring Jesus down to a human level. I could have listened to him talk all day. By the way, if anyone has tapes of his talks or notes, sure would like a copy. Thanks Fr. Rudy for your insights into life and Jesus. May God give you many more leftovers. I was invited to Lance Corporal Daniel Smiths’s farewell party at the U.S. Embassy but when I got there he had already flown the coop. I heard the U.S.A. wanted to charge the Philippine government for “room and board” for keeping Smith, but because of the Philippine “no ransom” policy they refused. They said ransoms are “never given.” How’s that for baloney? By the way, stay away from pigs. You might get the pig virus. The tires have finally gone to tire heaven. Not many left now. Here in Baloney Land we had three days of brownouts. Lost 3 kilos of fresh tuna. The dogs ate well. Then when I came back from the retreat I was greeted with two days of brownouts. I heard the transformers blew up. Now did you know the transformers are female? I requested Gabriela (a leftist women’s group that hates the U.S.A., VFA and men) to come to Dumaguete to protest at the electric company there against their sexists treatment of female transformers. Told them I would give free ship tickets on Sulpicio Lines. They refused. Said they had more protest action in Manila at the U.S. Embassy and Court of Appeals. Read that the NBI will do a “Psychological Autopsy” on Ted Failon’s wife. That’s the same method I used when working for the medical examiner in Houston, Texas. My boss there (a lawyer and forensic pathologist) always told me that the dead body tells the story of the manner and cause of death (accidental, homicide or suicide). The Psychological Autopsy is a good way to determine suicidal intent. The forensic pathologist Dra. Raquel Fortun (she’s the only qualified one in the Philippines) ruled suicide as the manner of death of Failon’s wife. I agree with her findings. Until next month, Fr. Tom Welu, MI. |
