Year for PriestsIn view of Pope Benedict XVI’s proclamation of the “Year for Priests,” the Ñuestra dela Annunciata Parish holds a daily novena to the Sacred Heart for the intention of priests throughout the world. The first Friday vigil and the first Saturday vigil are also observed as prayers for priests. These prayer services were mandated by the Diocese of Antipolo. Blood LettingLast July 12, 2009, the Parish Pastoral Council in collaboration with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute conducted the second blood donation program in Boso-Boso. More than 20 people volunteered to save lives by donating blood. The Pastoral Council foresees repeats of this event as it plans to encourage wider participation in the health program by conducting a forum and disseminating information on the benefits of donating blood. Formation and On-Going FormationDue to untoward incidents in the past, Fr. Meng Barawid organized a Task Force (a kind of a ministry of order) to safeguard the Church and to ensure peace and solemnity during Eucharistic celebrations, other liturgical services and church-related activities. There are also on-going formation programs for new lay ministers of the Word and a Christian Life Program for the Couples for Christ. Scuola de San CamiloThe Scuola de San Camilo opened its new library, canteen and stage, which were constructed to develop the school’s capacity to meet the needs of the students. An upcoming project, sponsored by the Parents-Teachers Association, aimed at providing a secure children-friendly playground is expected to be finished by September. This school year, the school admitted 65 enrollees for grades 1 and 2. The hope is for the school to expand up to grade 6. Guided by its mission “We learn to serve with love,” the school provides the pupils with wholistic education by teaching them not only what is in the books but also lessons in real life. 3 in 1July 25 was very special for the parishioners of Nuestra de la Annunciata - special because of three significant celebrations. First, the Scuola de San Camilo celebrated Nutrition Month. At around 9:00 am, the students presented dance and song numbers that stressed the need to be fit and healthy by eating nutritious food and living a healthy lifestyle. Second, the new library, canteen and stage of the school were opened and blessed. Third and most important was the celebration of Fr. Meng’s 38th birthday. Confreres from the College Seminary, Blessed Enrico Rebuschini Community and the Provincialate Community represented by Fr. Ivo Anselmi and Fr. Joseph Yang came and expressed their wishes and prayers for the celebrant. The parishioners, of course, also showed their love to their beloved parish priest. The celebration was enlivened by presentations from the representatives of the different chapels and by the bountiful meal which the people prepared and shared. |
