Sydney-based Filipino priests gather in Camillian space
Although they already bump into each other at informal Pinoy gatherings like fiestas or birthday celebrations, the Filipino priests of Greater Sydney nonetheless decided to formally gather twice a year. This year’s gatherings in January and July were held in the Camillian Community house at Wentworthville.
Sixteen priests and two permanent deacons
participated in the July gathering, which was a Day of Recollection and
of catching up with one another. Two speakers enriched the day with
their talks. Fr. Nestor Candado, SSP, the Society of St. Paul
Community Superior of Sydney, gave a short talk about St. Paul to mark
the end of the Pauline Year. Bishop Michael McKenna, the newly
ordained and installed Bishop of Bathurst, talked about the Year for
Priests. Bishop Mckenna also joined the priests at the closing Mass
and stayed for supper.
“It was a good gathering,” says Fr. Nilo Deligero, MI. He shared that they spent the time “not only to reflect with fellow pinoy
priests and deacons and to catch up with each other but also to share
about our life and ministry. This is also a sort of support group for
us. We agreed to help and assist each other’s ministry in our own way…”
