Fr. Rolly Explains Camillian PPMD Dots Experience Best Practices
Written by Camillian Update

The Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT) and the Department of Health (DOH) conducted the Public Private Mix Dots (PPMD) Annual Program Implementation Review (PIR) at Dusit Thani Hotel Manila last September 16-17, 2009.  The participating Regional Committees and PPMD implementers from all over the country did a fourfold task: assess the accomplishments of the PPMD units; share the best and promising practices; discuss and understand the issues and challenges encountered during implementation; and formulate recommendations for the PPMD initiative.

Among the participants at the gathering was Fr. Rolly Fernandez, MI.  He was not just an anonymous presence in the crowd but a discussion panelist who took center stage at 3:30 pm on September 16.  Asked to join the panel discussion about “Political viability: Ensuring continuous provision of services,” Fr. Rolly talked about “The St. Camillus PPMDots Experience,” highlighting the success factors behind it.  He also congratulated and thanked PhilCAT and the proponents of the DOTS Program for “successfully extending and improving the quality of life of many Filipinos, particularly the poor and the underprivileged.”  Disclosing that lobbying for a more equitable system of healthcare is part of the Camillian advocacy, he emphasized that “genuinely effective government programs, like the DOTS, should be given a fair chance of survival.”
