OCTOBER-FEST Chronicle

While Central Luzon grappled with the muddy aftermath of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, Samar Island, particularly Calbayog City, enjoyed a bundle of blessings that included sunny weather.  Counted also among the blessings were the opportunities and events that made the SCHC staff and personnel busy and alive this October 2009.

October 8:  The department heads gathered for a team building session led by Fr. James.  The activity aimed to enhance our leadership capability, to liven up in our hearts the purpose of caring for our sick brothers and sisters, and to improve the quality of health care in our institution.

October 9:  Dr. Celso Tan, one of the general practitioners in Calbayog gave a talk on pneumonitis as part of the “Bahandi” (Health is Wealth) program of the Diocesan Commission on Health Care.

October 11:  The LCF of Calbayog gathered for their monthly meeting in Oquendo District.  We gladly welcomed the old members, who were reactivated to serve the sick.

October 16:  The SCHC personnel and staff joined the celebration of the 61st Charter Day of the City of Calbayog.  Even with the scorching heat, they really enjoyed walking around the whole city proper in solidarity with all the different sectors and institutions of the city.

October 17:  As part of LCF monthly activity, we visited again our detainee friends in Calbayog City Jail and inspired them to revive their faith in God.

October 23:  Another interesting topic about “Death and Dying” was discussed at SCHC.  Three guest speakers presented the topic from three different perspectives.  Dr. Manny Rosales discussed the medical sense; Atty. Jennylyn Sumagang Durmiendo talked about the legal point of view; and, of course, Fr. James explained its spiritual and theological underpinning.  It was well participated in by the seminarians of Don Calabria and the Diocese of Calbayog.

This is just a few of the happenings that made October a kind of festival for us.
