Davao Archdiocese Celebrates 60th Diamond Anniversary

The Archdiocese of Davao is currently celebrating its 60th Diamond Jubilee.  The yearlong observance will culminate on December 17 of this year. Archbishop Fernando R. Capalla, the Archbishop of Davao, has exhorted the faithful of the Archdiocese to take advantage of the special year of favor to gain spiritual treasures.  He invoked the authority given to him as the Archdiocesan Bishop, within the limits of his capacity and jurisdiction, to grant jubilee indulgences to all the faithful who fulfill the following conditions:

  1. Pilgrimage to the seven churches in the Archdiocese: San Pedro Cathedral, Sta. Ana Shrine, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Sto. Rosario Church in Toril, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Calinan, Perpetual Adoration Chapel (Pink Sisters), and the Carmelite Monastery Chapel in Bajada.
  2. Recitation while on pilgrimage of the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be five times and the Hail Holy Queen once.
  3. The reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation within the jubilee year.
  4. The offering of one Holy Mass for the said intention.
  5. An act of charity

In observance of the jubilee year celebration, Fr. Tex V. Buntol, MI and some members of the Divine Healer choir of DMC chapel joined the Miraculous Medal Community on a pilgrimage to the seven churches last October 17, 2009.  Their pilgrimage ended with a 3:00 PM Mass at the Divine Healer Chapel officiated by Fr. Tex.

On November 28, 2009, a day after the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, the same group gathered for Mass at the Divine Healer chapel. Afterwards they prepared lunch for the elderly sheltered in Co Su Gian, a center for the elderly in Cabantian, Buhangin, Davao City. It was an opportunity for the group to be with the abandoned Lolos and Lolas and see up close the reality of their suffering. The experience was for them a moment of awakening and spiritual growth.
