Memoirs of the LCF General Assembly in Mottinello, Italy

The Lay Camillian Family International General Assembly for 2008 was held in Mottinello, Italy from April 21 to 26, 2008. It was attended by the National Presidents, Vice-Presidents, and Spiritual Assistants of the different countries where the LCF exists.  The Phiippined LCF was represented by  Atty. Diosdado R. Mendoza, Preswident, and Fr. Marcelo L. Pamintuan, Jr., M.I., Spiritual Assistant. They  left for Italy on April 18, 2008 with stopover in Milan where they were first housed in Casa di Cura di San Camillo, a prestigious and first class hospital in Milan, Italy, managed and supervised by the Camillian Fathers and Brothers.


On the opening day on April 21, 2008, the President of LCF International, Ms. Isabel Calderon from Colombia, led the introduction of the participants from the different countries. On the same day, an in-depth discussion of Camillian Spirituality was made by Spiritual Consultant for LCF International, Fr. Jose Maria Ruiz, MI. 

The presentation of the state of affairs of the LCF on country-to-country basis was done on the second day, April 22.  Each delegation presented the accomplishments, problems and concerns characteristic of their LCF unit. Later that day, the participants gathered in small groups to discuss the issues and concerns affecting the LCF and to come up with their desired recommendations to the General Assembly. The Philippines delegates joined the English Group along with the participants from the United States, England and Ireland.

On the third day, the entire group had the chance to tour the famous City of Venice which is about a 2 1/2 hour trip from Mottinello. One of the institutions they visited was the Instituto di Cura di San Camillo which is a hospital with state-of-the art facilities also supervised and maintained by the Order.

The 4th day was Election Day.  Through secret ballotting, the assembly elected the new set of officers of the LCF International .Ms. Rosa Bianca Carpene, a Registered Nurse from Italy, emerged as the newly-elected President emerged as president, who will carry the torch of leadership for a six-year period.

Group discussions on the 5th day focused on drawing up some projections and planned activities for the new Central Commission of LCF to be implemented according to a timetable within the next six years.

The closing exercises during the 6th and final day included picture-taking, exchange of friendly banter, and farewells, with everyone hopeful for reunion at the next General Assembly.

The Father General of the Order of St. Camillus, Fr. Renato Salvatorre, M.I., was the special guest during the Assembly who spoke about his  stonishment at the phenomenal rise of the group as it had increased in number and vitality in just a short span of time. In his speech, he urged the participants to carry on with their noble task of caring for the sick and the suffering in their respective countries in the tradition of zeal and passion of St. Camillus.
