The St. Camillus “Mabuhay Community"It was the late Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin who flashed the green light for the establishment of the St. Camillus Chaplaincy Community on Feb. 17, 1993. Upon the Cardinal’s approval, the Far East Vice Provincical Council, at their meeting on March 21, 1993, deliberated further on the canonical erection of the Mabuhay Community. The General Consulta, then headed by Fr. Angelo Brusco, finally approved its establishment on April 9, 1993. The religious who became the first members of the community were Frs. Anselmo Zambotti, (who was assigned local superior), Addie Comilang, (who served as procurator), Ignatius Tria, and Rolando Clarin. They served as chaplains at the Philippine Heart Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and East Avenue Medical Center. In mid 1994, Fr. Addie became the superior because Fr. Anselmo was elected General Consultor. The second group of religious in this community was composed of Fr. Addie, superior, Fr. Agustin Orosa, procurator, Fr. Alberto Roman, and Fr. Rolando Clarin. This second group was constituted during the term of Fr. Luigi Galvani as Provincial Superior of the Far-East Province. In 1996, Fr. Salvador Cariño was also assigned to the community. The following year, Frs. Wilfredo Penoliar, and Marcel Riñon were added to the community while others were transferred. On February 18, 1999, Fr. Errol Fidel Mananquil, MI was appointed coordinator of the community for two years. On January 28, 2000, Fr. Luigi, with the assent of the Provincial Council, appointed Fr. Marcelo Pamintuan Jr., as local superior of the Community for one year. The other religious who formed the community with Fr. Marcelo were Fr. Errol Mananquil, Fr. Menardo Nono, Fr. Agustin Orosa, and Fr. Marcel Riñon. This composition existed during the term of Fr. Ivo Anselmi as Provincial Superior of the Far East Province. On April 30, 2002, Fr. Freddie started his new assignment as new superior of the community. From 2003 to 2004, the other members of the community were Fr. Robert Chua Jr., Fr. Rolando Clarin, Fr. Regalado Ente, and Fr. Ruben Mandin. At this time Fr. Ivo Anselmi, was the Provincial Superior of what has become the Philippine Province. With the reshuffling of assignments in 2004, Fr. Freddie was retained as local superior of the community while the other members were assigned elsewhere. Frs. Charly Ricafort and Marlou Labares became the new companions of Fr. Freddie. Later Fr. Junrey Ente, replaced Fr. Marlou. Then on August 15, 2006, Fr. Francis Zhang, officially joined the Mabuhay Community. So these four Camillians currently compose the Mabuhay Community and are closely bound by the common ministry of chaplaincy in government hospitals. |
